Pet Sitting in Keller: Dogs, Cats… Alpacas? Sure!!

We absolutely love all the animals here at DFW Pet Sitting! 🦙😸🐶

Yes, our pet sitting employees usually do dog walking or cat sitting.  But it doesn’t mean they aren’t interested to learn about other animals of the DFW Metroplex. I’d like to say that we have a special spot for animals in our hearts, but it’s not true. In reality, animals take the MOST part of the hearts of pet sitters.

Our Fort Worth pet sitter Terri Rimmer spent some of her time this week getting to know the owners of an Alpaca Farm in Keller called DJ’s Classic Alpacas.

About Debbie and Jim Conkle and their Farm

Debbie and Jim Conkle are the owners of this farm, and they’ve been running this animal-friendly business for over 16 years! They breed and raise alpacas, as well as sell the animals and products made of their fiber. They were the town’s FIRST alpaca farmers. Several others have since followed suit.

They welcome other alpaca or llama owners to bring their animals to the farm for shearing or annual health screenings.

“We are very hands-on and enjoy sharing what we have learned with others,” said Debbie. “We are active in several regional affiliates of Alpaca Owner’s Associations, and pride ourselves in being great mentors to our clients.”

The Farm also welcomes people to visit, meet the animals, and have learning experiences with them. They can also bring their alpacas your home. Popular occasions are birthday parties, wedding receptions, pregnancy reveals, proposals, and photoshoots. Debbie and Jim are passionate about their work, and absolutely love sharing their knowledge with others.

DJ’s Alpacas loves contributing to the education of children and adults. They teach alpaca care, including feeding, maintenance, herd health, birthing, training, and showing. They hold approximately four to six free events during the year.

Upcoming Events

And they have an event coming up this weekend, March 12 and 13, from 9 am to 5 pm. This is their Spring Alpaca Farm Event. They are located at 8608 Indian Knoll Trail in Keller.  Their next Fall Alpaca Farm Event will be held on September 24 and 25.

There is a store on-site by appointment only. It sells, among other items, alpaca scarves, head bands, socks, boot inserts, calendars, greeting cards, gift certificates, pellets, DVDs, books and coloring books, equipment, jewelry, cat toys, and even luggage tags. You can also adopt an alpaca. Or you can arrange a farm visit which is 90 minutes long and by appointment only. Those are $15 for ages 13 and older and $10 for ages three to 12

The company’s first cria (baby alpaca) of the year was born in January. It’s a boy whose parents’ names are Purple Rain and Rocky Bay. Debbie and Jim love their animals, their farm, and feel blessed to be where they are today. “We have enjoyed this adventure,” said Debbie. “Our only regret has been that we didn’t start it sooner.”

DJ’s Classic Alpacas can be reached at 817-581-0554, and their website is www.DJsClassicAlpacas.com. They’re also on Facebook.

Check them out! You’ll learn so much!
