Giovanna Lazcano is one of our veteran-pet-sitters. She’s been with our company for many years, and it’s been a great journey to pet sit animals with Giovanna on our team. She provides pet sitting, dog sitting, dog walking, cat sitting, and bird sitting services in Euless, Colleyville, Grapevine, Southlake, Hurst, Bedford, and Keller.

How it all began

“It all started when my parents got two Scotch Terriers, Micheal and Margaret. They never intended to breed them but nature happened, and there was the first litter of puppies. That’s when my parents realized that they were not just really good at it, but they also enjoyed it immensely.

A couple of years later I came into the picture. And ever since I knew how to crawl, I was surrounded by puppies. Fast forward 17 years later and I found myself helping out neighbors by taking care of their fur babies. It was then that I had that same feeling my parents had years ago. I love meeting new pets, watching their personalities come out, and gaining their trust. All of it is so rewarding to me, and to be able to do it as a job is the icing on the cake.”

Special Pets in my Life

“When going into this sort of line of work, you become so caught up in staying on schedule and making sure the pets are tended to and cared for properly. Each week that goes by becomes another month gone by faster than the last. During my last visit with the pet(s), I do get a bit sad knowing I won’t see them again the next day. But always tell them that I’ll see them next time.

The first time I received a text from an owner with news that their fur baby passed away.. it really hit me hard. It was something that I didn’t think much of. But with older dogs, the thought definitely crossed my mind. Ace was the sweetest boy, always ready for cuddles on the couch, and of course his food and treats. He was a 13-year-old Australian Shepherd who lived the best life with his two favorite humans and his sister Sasha. Unfortunately, about 9 months later his sister Sasha, the cutest bulldog, joined him in doggy heaven due to a tumor. I know they’re both up there snuggling, and play-fighting over toys.. and I know Ace is still trying to eat Sasha’s food/treats haha!

What I learned through this experience is that just like the pets I take care of, the people I love need to really know how much I appreciate and love them every chance I get. My hugs are tighter, the cuddles are more often, and the words I love you never go unsaid.”

Things I Love

“Some favorite places I enjoy taking my dog with me are Lazy Dog in Euless, and Hop and Sting Brewing Co. in Grapevine. Lazy Dog even has food options for your pup! Both locations have great food and drinks, and with the ability to bring your fur baby, it ultimately calls for a great time! Grapevine Lake is also a fun place I enjoy taking my dog out to. We enjoy hiking and most recently tried out swimming there and it was a blast!

Outside of pet sitting, I enjoy being outdoors whether in a pool, at the lake hiking, or simply taking some time to ground myself outside with my pup. Pet sitting like any job can be overwhelming so taking time for myself is something I think is important for my overall wellbeing. I also love attending music festivals/concerts, and love to travel and experience different cultures/foods – life is full of joy and it’s so important to experience it!

In the past year, I became a cat owner after owning only dogs for 24 years, and I just want to say that I wish I had experienced this sooner! All the misconceptions about cats are so silly and remind me of the misconceptions we humans may have of one another. Until we give each other a chance we won’t really know if it is for us or not. Approaching everything in life with delicateness and love is important and something I think we often lose within the chaos of life. Ultimately, we all want someone to give us a chance in life. I am grateful that DFW Pet Sitting took a chance on me and welcomed me into this amazing family/company! :)”
