Happy Pet Sitting – Halloween 2015!!

Should I dress up my dog for Halloween?  Should I take my pet trick-or-treating?  How should I prevent my pets from eating poisonous candy?

This is the time when I see a lot of “Pets and Halloween” related articles, blogs and opinions out there on all kinds of social media.  People post pictures of their pets in costumes while scrolling through the articles that warn you of dangers of those costumes to your pets’ health, wellbeing and dignity.

As the owner of a pet sitting company here in Dallas / Fort Worth, I go through some personal struggle when picking a topic for a newsletter around this time of year… Should I warn my clients on dangers of chocolate?  Or should I tell them to keep their pets safe during trick-or-treating?  Should I send them a link to a collection of cute pet costumes or should I warn them that these costumes aren’t natural to pets?

I feel that social media, just like regular journalism, has become sensationalism-driven.  The pendulum either swings right or left, and if you write about balance and common sense, you are just boring.  Who would want to read about me writing that common sense should really prevail in making decisions for your pets in all areas of life?  Is your pet used to wearing clothes?  Then dress them up!   Does your pet freeze up when you put a sweater on them?  Then don’t dress them up!  Is your pet calm in large crowds?  Then take them to a Halloween costume contest!  Is your pet shy or skittish?  Keep them home.  And please keep all your candy away.  Done.  Topic is covered.  Conclusion: please use your common sense.

So, I really don’t want to dive deep into either of the Halloween topics.  Instead, I’m just going to fall back on the common statistic: people love to look at cute pictures of dogs and cats on the Internet.  In honor of Halloween and this holiday season, I’m going to end this post with a collection of cuteness.  At the end, all we need is something to smile about, no matter who we are and what we do.  If this post warmed your heart today, then my time putting it together didn’t go in vain!

DFW Pet Sitting Services is not just a business for me. It's a close-knit family of pet sitters and pet owners. We all have one common denominator: our love for pets. We trust each other, we do the right thing, and we appreciate all the lessons our pets have taught us. Every day we are fortunate to experience the unconditional love of our pets. We never take it for granted. We are thankful for our clients and their pets for enriching our lives every day.
