Why Do Animals Adopt Other Species?

animals

Do you sometimes wonder what is it like to be an animal?  How do they feel?  What do they think?  How do they see the world?

We are taught that humans are biologically superior to animals.  Our brain is different, and we have an opposable thumb of course….

Situations when animals adopt other species have always made me wonder… They also always make great news stories.  The question is: do they happen due to the hormonal release in the mother that promotes bonding, or are animals capable of feeling empathy and wanting to help a baby in need?

What do you think?  I’d love to hear your comments…

DFW Pet Sitting Services is not just a business for me. It's a close-knit family of pet sitters and pet owners. We all have one common denominator: our love for pets. We trust each other, we do the right thing, and we appreciate all the lessons our pets have taught us. Every day we are fortunate to experience the unconditional love of our pets. We never take it for granted. We are thankful for our clients and their pets for enriching our lives every day.

    1. Good one!! So maybe in addition to instinct and empathy, we need to add a theory of searching for unconditional love?

      1. Pets give so much love and require so little. Even when you’re having a bad day, they give to you as soon as you’re ready to receive it. Would be nice if we could consistently give to each other that way.

(cats are excluded from this, my cat is more moody than I am lol).
