DFW Pet Sitting And Dog Walking: Our Story
Hi, my name is Olga Wharton, and I am crazy about my four-legged babies! When it comes to their well-being, I am a Mama-Bear who will make sure they are safe, happy, and healthy. I knew I took good care of them, but what happens if I needed to stay late at work or travel? Traditional kenneling is not acceptable for me. Caging up my animals and exposing them to other pets’ illnesses will never be a solution for my furry family. That’s when I started thinking about using a pet sitting and dog walking service for my own fur-kids.
My personal experience with all types of pet sitting companies
Experience with a solo owner-operator pet sitting company
Someone recommended a pet sitter to me many years ago. I thought it was the best solution for my pets – she was attentive, thorough, and neat. But she worked alone. Accommodating changes in my schedule and last minute requests were difficult for her. She always overbooked herself during holidays when unfortunately that’s when I needed her the most.
Experience with a large pet sitting company
I thought the service would improve when I began using a larger pet sitting company. However, I found out that these larger companies often contract their pet sits out to independent contractors. Using these independent contractors meant that the company I was using did not have control over pet sit quality and the schedule of the visits. In addition, the contractor turnover with these larger companies was very high. I always wanted to meet the person who’d take care of my four-legged children!
It was then when I realized that pet owners needed a reliable pet sitting and dog walking service. So in September 2003 I gave up my business suit, bid farewell to my corporate banking job, and decided to dedicate my career to my true love: animals.
Experience with a pet sitting app that matches pet lovers with pet parents looking for a pet sitter
This is my most recent addition to this page, because these apps are just now gaining publicity and popularity.
Technology is developing in rapid ways, allowing people to connect with each other. So many businesses develop apps and technologies to stay connected with their customers. Pet sitting industry has followed suit. As a result, it’s easy to find a pet sitter online and book them without even talking to anyone. Hey, that’s why Uber is so popular, right?
Well, pet sitting is different, and those who don’t foresee it usually pay a very high price. Sometimes their pets are the ones paying that price.
I joined several of those apps both as a pet sitter and as a pet owner. The idea and technology and graphics are amazing. But until you replace people with robots, these apps are not even a competition to DFW Pet Sitting.
Technology can’t respond to a short notice inquiry or a change in schedule request. Software can’t arrange a backup when the primary sitter isn’t available or is having an emergency. Computer can’t guarantee uninterrupted service as long as both parties on both ends are living and breathing beings who can get sick, get hurt, or have a problem.
I am sure there are good and bad pet sitters out there. When we get good ones, we hold on to them tight. We value and cherish them, we treat them well. We tell them how much we appreciate them. And sometimes we also get bad ones. We all do. And it is how we fix those mistakes is what matters the most. Can we detect an issue before it even happens? Can we find a replacement? Are the pets ok? That’s what we do. We keep the service going no matter what happens. We treat your pets as if they were our own.
The story of our success
My pet sitting and dog walking company grew from a one-person operation to an established reliable pet care center. We service most zip codes of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. Our growth has been fueled by the excellent pet care services that we provide. We specialize in hiring and training employees who live within maximum 5 miles of your home. Having our pet sitters living close to you is very convenient in many ways. By reducing commute time, we can focus on following thru our promised schedules. We can now respond quickly to any changes of plans or emergencies.
In addition, the size of our company allows us the resources to use other back up pet sitters if there is ever an emergency, or illness, with your primary pet sitter. My parents and my managers are also always a back-up, so you don’t have to worry about what happens to your pets if your pet sitter has an emergency or illness.
Because we work with living and breathing creatures, I feel it’s necessary to be accessible to our customers 24/7. I have invested in a sophisticated telecommunication system, which allows our customers access a live person or just leave a message. You can also text me directly, and my personal cell phone number is listed on the bottom of this page. I want my customers to feel that they can reach us anytime. We all know that emergencies do happen, planes get delayed, travel plans change, and we have to be able to be there for the four-legged family members who can’t refill their water on their own. We have such a huge responsibility to our customers, and we take it very seriously!
Although we do all the scheduling out of an office, we encourage our pet sitters to develop close and personal relationships with our clients. Many become friends, sometimes as close as family. We build our business on relationships, and believe in long term commitments. Our goal is to keep employee turnover low so you get to know and feel comfortable with your pet sitter over time.
Your keys and personal information
We always keep your keys secured, and we won’t list your name or address on the label. Your privacy is extremely important to us. We store all your personal information in a password protected database, and we file away your signed contract. Our employees do not put any signs on their cars, neither do they wear any uniforms. We do not want to advertise that a pet sitter is in your house and you are away. Your pet sitter will alternate lights, pick up your mail, newspaper, and keep your plants alive while you are away. Anything additional you need, just ask! We custom tailor all our services to meet your needs. Initial consultation is free of charge, so you can discuss all the details with your pet sitter.
We are here to take care of you and provide you with peace of mind that your pets are being cared for, pampered and loved. This is what we do for a living, and we take our jobs very seriously. Everyone in our staff is a pet owner and understands animals very well. I am a very picky consumer myself, and I feel that if I can create a company that I would use myself, others would want to use it too. Please feel free to contact me any time if you have any comments or questions.
